Dr. Dan Siegel on The Ideal Way to Raise a Child

In this Hugs For A Brighter Future Series, Dr. Dan Siegel, psychiatrist, discusses the ideal way to raise a child. According to Siegel, we evolved with alloparenting, a method of parenting where individuals other than biological parents act in parental roles. He claims that our current method of parenting places too much pressure on the individual (especially the mother), and that this method is both “unhealthy and inaccurate.”As he says,

“The child was meant to be raised in a village and the baby’s attachment system in the brain allows fore more than one attachment figure.” He concludes that we must keep the interdependence of the larger world in mind in order to serve and savior the world in all ways.
