Session from the Love and Power Retreat featuring Ram Dass, Krishna Das, Jack Kornfield and Friends
This talk opens with a dedication to love, compassion, and intentional listening, all compounded into one practice. Mirabai explores the various purposes and intentions that arise within people who attend and participate in the Maui retreats, and invites the audience to alternatively speak and listen to other audience members in a concerted, caring, and intentional way. She continues to expand upon Maharaji’s admonishment to “never go where there is no love,” entwining stories of her personal life as they relate to that axiom. Later in the talk, Mirabai conveys her understanding of how people in the military deal with stress, meditation, and life after battle, and how biases can subtly, yet strongly, influence our actions and decisions. Mirabai’s talk concludes with a partner meditation centered on two integral aspects of consciously living a life of love: compassion and compassionate action. When we act with compassion toward ourselves and others, we begin to realize that we all share certain commonalities, and the world is therefore a less intimidating and more relatable place.
