Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D., is a scientist, writer, and meditation teacher who brings mindfulness into the mainstream of medicine, healthcare, and society. He is professor of medicine emeritus at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where he was founding executive director of the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society. He is also the founder and former director of its world-renowned Stress Reduction Clinic.
Dr. Kabat-Zinn earned his Ph.D. in molecular biology from M.I.T. in 1971. His research has focused on mind-body interactions for healing, various clinical applications of mindfulness meditation training, and the effects of mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) on the brain. The Center for Mindfulness offers a number of professional training opportunities in MBSR in which Dr. Kabat-Zinn continues to participate.
Dr. Kabat-Zinn is also a best-selling author of several books, including Full Catastrophe Living and Wherever You Go, There You Are. During his career, he has trained thousands of people in mindfulness, including judges, business leaders, lawyers, clergy, and Olympic athletes. He conducts annual Power of Mindfulness retreats in various resort and retreat centers in the United States.
