The Brain is a Social Animal with Matthew Lieberman

Matthew Lieberman, Ph.D.  has coined the term ‘Social Cognitive Neuroscience’ (1.7 million hits on Google) with Kevin Ochsner in 2000, at Harvard University where he received his Ph.D. He is Professor of Psychology, Psychiatry, and Biobehavioral Sciences at UCLA. 

He has published more than 100 papers, many in the world’s top journals (Science, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Nature Neuroscience, American Psychologist). His work has been cited in more than 2000 scholarly papers and has been covered by various media outlets (New York Times, Wall Street Journal, CNN, Time, US News & World Report). Dr. Lieberman won the American Psychological Association’s Distinguished Scientific Award for Early Career Contribution to Psychology (2007). 

Dr. Lieberman is also the founding Editor-in-Chief of the journal Social Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience. He is currently writing his first book  ‘How the brain got a social network’. Matthew is also one of the leading proponents for linking social cognitive neuroscience to the real world. He speaks worldwide to non-academic audiences about the significance of current brain science for education, business, and personal growth. 

He is a frequent keynote speaker at Neuroleadership Institute Summits and also consults for Defense Group Inc. and Precog Neuromarketing, creating applied neuroscience solutions for industry.
